It's already a tax haven for those flush with regular cash, and now Jersey wants to extend its favourable rates to those sitting on Bitcoin stashes too. With the backing of a cryptocurrency campaign group looking to establish the world's first "Bitcoin Isle", Jersey's Treasury Minister Senator Philip Ozouf is looking to introduce Bitcoin as an alternative payment system on the island.
It seems the plan would initially be to allow for small payments like bus trips to be supported by Bitcoin locally, before establishing a fully-fledged Bitcoin banking centre on Jersey. No word yet on whether or not Ozouf and co are looking to support newly-minted Titcoin and it's sure-to-be-characterful users, however. [BBC]
