Fitness focussed hardware and app makers Misfit have teamed up with the e-ink Pebble smartwatch team to bring health and fitness monitoring algorithms to the techy timepiece.
The Misfit Pebble app will allow the smartwatch to track steps and will eventually integrate with the Misfit iOS app, letting users track calories burned and other fitness milestones. Misfit will also be developing an open API, allowing third parties to leverage its tech.
For the Pebble team, it's important that its smartwatch boosts its fitness credentials. In the short term, this week's Google I/O event will see it face stiff competition from an expected slew of Android Wear devices, whilst Apple is almost certainly priming a fitness-focussed iWatch.
