With Samsung's Galaxy Tab S now out in the open, and looking rather impressive, it's Apple's turn to up its tablet game. The iPad Air was a gorgeous slate that slimmed down Apple's 9.7-inch tablet, and while it's unlikely the iPad Air 2 will drastically alter that design, it's rumoured to have a number of reasonable spec improvements.
ETNews is stating that iPad Air 2 production is just about to begin, with LG Display churning out 9.7-inch 2048 x 1536 Retina screens from June, with Samsung and Sharp to follow suit shortly after.
Under the hood, Apple is expected to include an upgraded A8 processor according to supply chain sources, with an 8MP camera jumping from the 5MP snapper on the rear of the existing iPad Air. It's said to be featuring a larger sensor, making it more capable in low-light situations. Finally, the Touch ID fingerprint scanner from the iPhone line is at last expected to make the jump to the tablet range -- likely in time for Apple's own rumoured payment system.
These all seem safe bets -- even a casual Apple fan could make these educated guesses. But it's beginning to paint a picture of what's been tested somewhere in a lab in Cupertino. Now we just have to wait and see what the customary "just one more thing" is. [ETNews via MacRumors]
