It was only a matter of time, surely? As soon as the Touch ID fingerprint scanner was introduced in the iPhone 5S we've been counting down the days until it appeared in Apple's iPad line. It was a surprise not to see it land with the iPad Air back in October of last year, but it now seems that 2014 will be the year in which the digit-reading security system expands to the tablet line.
This latest leak, courtesy of Apple.club.tw, alleges to show an elongated iPhone 6 sitting on top of an iPad Mini and iPad Air -- each sporting the Touch ID scanning ring, suggesting that they are either mock-ups or prototype versions of the third-generation iPad Mini and second-gen iPad Air.
Though little else is revealed by the image, the introduction of a Touch ID scanner across the range makes sense -- Apple is opening up the Touch ID API to third parties as part of the iOS 8 update. PayPal is already working on Touch ID authentication systems for its mobile app, and it's thought that Apple is developing its own payment system, with Touch ID an integral part.
