The £3.8 Billion Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Merger Just Got the Green Light

By Gerald Lynch on at

There's a new high-street tech juggernaut in town. Introducing Dixons Warehouse, the lovechild of Dixons, Carphone Warehouse and a £3.8 billion merger deal.

The partnership (first announced back in May under the awkward-sounding "Dixons Carphone" moniker) has just been approved by the European Commission, with ownership split equally between the two companies. With 35,000 employees between them and roughly 2,500 stores (Carphone Warehouse having 2,000 of those, while Dixons operates around 500 Currys and PC World outlets), the deal should save both parties around £80 million. So expect to see some jobs cuts too.
