Turbulence Expected as Heathrow's New Terminal 2 Opens to Flights

By Gary Cutlack on at

The first passengers have trudged lifelessly through Heathrow's new Terminal 2 building with their bottled water and crumpled magazines today, as a United Airlines flight from Chicago landed at 5:49am and disgorged its load of irritable humans into the new building.

To hopefully avoid the troubles experienced when Terminal 5 opened a few years back T2 is only operating at 10 per cent capacity in these early days, allowing staff to learn their way around the literal and metaphorical ropes and for everything to break and get repaired a few times and settle in.

The new Queen's Terminal replaces the original Heathrow buildings, first used in 1955. People wearing Beefeater costumes welcomed the first passengers, although that may have just been the new Virgin uniforms. [BBC]
