Banking giant Barclays is beginning the process of phasing out the idea of people sitting behind screens accepting our wrinkled cheques, with its new wave of "community bankers" coming out into the front of the building to engage with punters via iPads.
Currently just 37 of the bank's 1,600 branches operate in this new counter-less manner, with many more set to switch over this year. All of the bank's 6,500 existing cashiers will see their job titles change to that of community banker come October 1st. Much like when Channel 5 made newsreaders stand up, it'll be interesting to see what bank staff wear on their legs. [Barclays via The Register]
