Bike-Friendly, Sensor-Laden Delivery Lorry Works for Sainsbury's in London

By Gary Cutlack on at

This lorry is covered with sensors and has a network of cameras to eliminate all driver blind spots, and arrives as part of an effort to minimise the chances of causing an accident with a cyclist or pedestrian. It rolls out, literally, in London today.

Designed for use in the city and announced in partnership with the Mayor's Safer Lorries Scheme, the HGV features proximity sensors, larger side guards to stop people getting yanked under in the event of a collision, extra indicators on the sides to better alert cyclists to when it's turning and seven cameras to give the driver a 360-degree view.

Seven of the Sainsbury's technolorries enter service in London today, with another nine to come later in the year. [Standard]
