According to London's Mayor, the city will be among the first places in the world to feature a full 5G mobile network, with Johnson suggesting the next-gen data network should be ready for launch by 2020.
Johnson says the 5G launch will come in part via the Infrastructure Plan for London, a blueprint that looks at how the city's connectivity needs will evolve between now and the year 2050. The University of Surrey's 5G Innovation Centre is collaborating on the plan.
In the short-term, the plan promises to deliver more accurate broadband speed results for individual properties in London too, encouraging ISPs to prioritise connecting up slow spots and letting potential tenants and home owners see what speeds they're likely to receive in their new homes.
