McDonald's Japan's New Nuggets Contain No Chicken

A food standards scandal has seen McDonald's Japan pull all chicken products imported from China off its menu, after supplier Shanghai Husi Food Co. was found to be selling out of date meat. A day that saw McDonald's unable to sell McNuggets would surely herald the coming of the end times, and so McDonald's Japan is introducing an alternative -- the Tofu McNugget.

Made of onion, soybean, carrot and minced fish, the dish hit Japanese McDonald's outlets this week, and is served with a side order of ginger sauce.

“Because it isn’t meat, it tastes a bit different. It’s a bit softer,” a McDonald's spokeswoman told the WSJ. “Calorie-wise, it is a bit lower than chicken as well.”

Taste's a bit like chicken, and doesn't pile on the pounds? Considering the pink goop that goes into the standard McNuggets, maybe they should be pushing these out worldwide? [WSJ]
