Forty-five years ago man first set foot on the moon, and to celebrate the anniversary of Apollo 11's historic mission, GE (of all companies) is releasing a limited edition set of high-top sneakers inspired by the moon boots worn by the astronauts.
Working alongside JackThreads and Android Homme, the sneakers not only pay tribute to the Apollo 11 mission, but also the advanced materials, at least at the time, that were developed to allow mankind to walk on the moon. As a result, the Missions are made with thermoplastic rubber, carbon fibre, and are covered in 3M's reflective Scotchlite material.
Whether or not the Missions' retro look is appealing is up to you, but if you feel they're a must-have addition to your shoe collection, you'll be able to snatch a pair on JackThreads' website starting at 4:18pm on Sunday, July 20th: exactly 45 years after Apollo 11 touched down on the moon. Only 100 pairs will be available, priced at $196.90 each—get it? Shipping to the UK is available. [JackThreads]
