Russia Has Lost Control of a Satellite, Home to a Gecko Orgy

By Tom Pritchard on at

I'm seriously not making this up. Last weekend Russia launched a satellite on a 60 day mission. A satellite containing five geckos, four female and one male, in order to observe their mating patterns in zero gravity. Now it turns out they've lost contact with said satellite.

Apparently Mission Control lost communication with the satellite after the first few orbits, and a spokesperson told Russian news agency Itar-Tass that it's trying to restore communication with the satellite, but so far there has been no success.

Honestly, I'm a little lost for words here -- specifically, why this experiment ended up at the top of the RKA's to-do list. I bet the geckos are having a great time, though. [Buzzfeed]
