Snapchat might be trying to monetise its service by processing money transfers and online payments according to two trademarks the company filed earlier this week. Is this the dawn of anonymous money transfers? Sorry to break it to all the paranoia-stricken-people out there, probably not.
The two trademarks are for:
- “Computer application software for processing electronic payments to and from others that may be downloaded from a global computer network” – Trademark Serial # 86335306
- “Electronic transfer of money for others; providing electronic processing of electronic funds transfer, ACH, credit card, debit card, electronic check and electronic, mobile and online payments” - Trademark Serial # 86335307
What does that mean? Nothing fancy really, just that Snapchat would quite like it if you were able to buy things, and send money, via its app -- while they take a small transaction fee, of course. So like Venmo and PayPal then. [TechCrunch]
