When it comes to Apple rumour talk, John Gruber of Daring Fireball has a voice worth listening to. The influential blogger has accurately detailed many an Apple announcement ahead of official channels, including plenty concerning the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. And now he's suggested that the Apple iWatch may be with us as soon as next month.
Or has he? Gruber was making comment on a piece on gadget blog The Verge concerning the Moto 360 smartwatch, saying that:
It looks like Motorola's designers tried to draw as much attention as they could to the 360's stupid flat-tire display shape. The only way this could get funnier would be if it doesn't even ship until after Apple announces their wrist wearable thing next month.
The emphasis there is mine. Does Gruber have an inside line on Apple's "wrist wearable thing", as he calls it? An Apple event is said to be scheduled for September 9th -- could it feature there? And is it a watch at all? A "wearable thing" is certainly more vague than just calling the device a smartwatch, were that what it actually was.
Gruber has since been dismissive of the comment, taking to Twitter to call it just a joke. "By the way, I have no idea whether Apple is planning wrist thing for September or October, just making a joke," he said. But with the rumour fires stoked, expect to see many an Apple fan grooming their wrists in preparation. [Daring Fireball]
