Bizarre Accident Near-Miss as Pilot's Artificial Arm Came off During Landing

By Gary Cutlack on at

The pilot of a Flybe flight from Birmingham to Belfast City Airport managed to get himself in a bit of a mess, when his artificial arm somehow came off during a landing back in February.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch report into the incident makes for bizarre reading, saying that the man's "...prosthetic limb became detached from the yoke clamp, depriving him of control of the aircraft."

To maintain control during the rather important landing part of the trip, the pilot took his real arm off the throttles to hold the yoke, resulting in a slightly bumpy, but successful landing. [Sky]
