Bomb Hoax on UK Flight Leads to RAF Typhoon Fighter Jet Escort

By Gerald Lynch on at

Qatar Airways flight QR23 from Doha to Manchester had to be escorted into Manchester Airport by an RAF fighter jet after a passenger is said to have made a hoax bomb threat onboard the plane.

The Airbus A330-300 was carrying 269 passengers and 13 Qatar Airways crew when a note highlighting the possible threat was passed from a passenger to staff. The captain then contacted air traffic control, resulting in the cautionary Typhoon accompanying the flight.

After the flight landed safely, police arrested a man on suspicion of making the hoax claim. Nine other flights had to be diverted to nearby airports as a result of the bomb threat. The details of today's drama are still coming in -- we'll update as we hear more. [Sky News]
