Star Tours! You're gonna have company! After hints last year of a potential Star Wars Land in the works, Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that their theme park(s) would be getting new attraction(s) tied to everyone's favourite space saga, and the elusive plans will be revealed next year.
During the call, Iger said when Disney now decides to build new attractions, "the likelihood of their success is greater" when they're branded. "When we grow 'Star Wars' presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past," adding that leveraging the collection of popular franchises and properties that the company owns for rides and experiences will deliver "better returns than we saw in the past."
That's all pretty boring business-speak! Plus, all-things-SW-source The Force makes it clear that at this point, details on what exactly's getting built are scarce (though it's a good bet that more info will be revealed at April's Celebration in Anaheim).
For die-hards who believe the series represents far more than a branding opportunity, it might sound a bit crass to discuss the franchise in terms of pure, unadulterated, bottom-line, money-making potential. But the timing is right with the impending release (and fever-pitch anticipation) of Episode 7 next summer, and possibility of new adventures with Luke, Leia, and the gang could be a hell of a lot of fun.
