Facebook is Testing a Satire Tag to Ensure Stupid People Understand That The Onion Isn't Real

By Tom Pritchard on at

Everybody will have seen that one idiot on Facebook who believes that websites like The Onion are 100 per cent real and factual, not understanding that they're the digital media equivalent of April Fools' Day. Even if you haven't seen any, there are whole websites devoted to documenting these morons. Maybe that's why Facebook is testing out a satire tag.

Apparently every time someone clicks on a link that takes them to a fake-news website, Facebook will detect similar stories and add a [Satire] tag at the start of the headline, like so:

Now we just have to worry about people who don't understand what satire is and think that this is some sort of virus. [Ars Technica via Engadget]
