Four London Buses Kitted Out With Radar and Cameras in New Safety Push

By Gary Cutlack on at

London buses on routes 25 and 73 are about to make a few more weird beeps and whistles than usual, thanks to TfL testing out radar and visual systems designed to alert the drivers when pedestrians and cyclists get a little too close.

The trial uses two systems, with the CycleEye and Cycle Safety Shield tools using a variety of radar and optical trackers to monitor wandering soft things beside the buses. The two central London routes were chosen thanks to being the lines most likely to encounter packed seas of distracted shopping people and cyclists.
