Eat healthy, live longer? It seems Brits are willing to court an early grave in favour of the culinary delights of a full English breakfast, with fried breakfast foods surging in popularity according to consumer stat house Kantar Worldpanel.
Eggs now feature in 804.6 million British breakfasts, an increase of 13.7 per cent compared to last year's figures. Bacon consumption is on the rise too, up 7.1 per cent year on year, with sausage munching up 1.5 per cent. Overall, elements of a full English appeared on breakfast plates 142.4 million times over the year, up 9.8 per cent. Of course, the dark art of how Kantar Worldpanel precisely tracked these figures is questionable -- did they count, for instance, the numerous times I hid a sausage in a banana peel for fear of being chastised by cereal bar-eating tube commuters?
