Microsoft Shoves "Internet of Things" into London Underground

Microsoft and its tech partners Telent and CGI are trying to wire-up the Underground, upgrading the way the network is managed by integrating Microsoft's Azure Intelligent Systems Services and claiming it's living proof of the "internet of things" in action.

Here's a video that attempts to make it all sound very simple. It doesn't, but it does feature a businessman saying "internet of things" in a serious voice like that's a real thing and not just a load of nonsense designed to sell more tablets to children:

So it sounds like there's going to be a lot more sensors in everything, with the idea being to offer better real-time monitoring of equipment and systems across the network. [Microsoft via The Inquirer]
