Tim Vine Wins Funniest Joke Award With Working Men's Club Gag

By Gary Cutlack on at

Established comedian Tim Vine won a little trophy thing for telling the best joke of the Edinburgh Fringe, with TV channel Dave saying nearly one fifth of voters chose his line from a shortlist of 10.

Here is the winning joke:

"I decided to sell my Hoover... well it was just collecting dust."

Nice, but surely it's been done before? Jimmy Tarbuck must've been annoying his wife with that one for decades every time she gets the Henry out.

The full shortlist is available over on Dave's site, and also includes a sample of the worst lines recorded at the show, such as the baffling: "My mate sat on my pumpkin. He butternut squash it." [Metro]
