French Rail Workers Infuriate Nation in Strike Over Booze Bans

By Gary Cutlack on at

Rail staff on one Parisien line went on strike in support of several of their colleagues, who were disciplined for being filmed enjoying several rum cocktails while controlling live rail traffic.

One staff member was captured on video saying he nearly sent a train down a line that had another train on it, potentially causing an accident, while a few other staff enjoyed rum cocktails and crepes. Six staff were handed various suspensions for the on-the-job boozing session, although this amounted to "repression" according to the local rail union, which pulled staff out on strike in support of the boozy team.

Around half the trains on the line were out of service as a result. [The Local]
