"Any orders that have not already been dispatched will be cancelled and any payments refunded to customers. Phones 4u apologise for any inconvenience," said the company in a statement today.
With the iPhone 6 not expected to ship until September 19th, all Phones 4u pre-order customers should in theory be able to get a refund. But it always gets a bit messy when companies enter into administration, so it's probably best to give the customer services line (0845 871 2253) a call. Expect to be on hold a while though -- that line must be getting hammered today.
Phones 4u has been forced into administration following the decision of many of the UK's leading networks to halt stocking the shops with their handsets. Last week, Vodafone announced it would be moving its stock to the newly-formed Carphone Dixons stores. The news this weekend that EE would not be renewing its contract with Phones 4u proved the final straw -- with O2 and Three already having pulled out of Phones 4u, the retailer was left only with Virgin Mobile as a supporter, which left its business unsustainable.
All 720 Phones 4u outlets are set to close, leaving more than 5,500 jobs in jeopardy.
