Phones 4U Won't be Refunding iPhone 6 Pre-Orders

By Gerald Lynch on at

If you've made a pricey pre-order for an iPhone 6 with Phones 4U, you may want to go grab something to bite down on before reading any further. Despite previously suggesting otherwise, Phones 4U has now admitted that no refunds will be offered for those that have paid upfront for an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus that they will now never receive.

Phones 4U has emailed all those affected and encouraged them to contact their credit card provider, who may be able to reverse any charges sent. Adding insult to injury, Phones 4U sent the email out without hiding each user's email address, so the long list of customers left in the lurch was visible to all.

If you paid with cold, hard cash rather than a credit card, you're even less likely to ever see your money again. Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers can be contacted, and a claim submitted, but the disclaimer on the site is disheartening:

Please note, given the level of secured liabilities, if there is any dividend to unsecured creditors, any payment if made at all, would not be for many months and is likely to be negligible.

In other words, you're at the back of a long, long queue of people and companies that Phones 4U owes money to, and there's not much moolah to go around. [Engadget, Business Insider]
