Stephen Hawking Tests Intel's Connected Wheelchair

By Stephen Davies on at

Renowned planet-sized brain physicist Stephen Hawking has been testing out a new form of propulsion from Intel, with the Connected Wheelchair Project looking to bring a new level of connectedness to those who need help getting around.

A combined sensor suite and app lets the wheelchair user monitor some biometric data about their health and the status of the wheelchair itself, also pulling in accessibility data for places they may be planning to visit. The short promo video also shows a user ranking a location's accessibility via the tablet app, which is displayed alongside stats like the user's body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure.
