Windows 7 Moves to OS Hospice on October 31st

By Gary Cutlack on at

Microsoft is "sunsetting" or "retiring" or "killing" Windows 7 in part from the end of next month, with the software giant planning to stop supplying new licenses for the OS to hardware makers from the end of October.

The first wave of the death of Windows 7 will see the Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate versions of the OS exiting the supply chain, with PC makers able to sell their existing stock with copies pre-installed but not acquire any more. The only W7 survivor will be the Pro version, with its end date yet to be established. [Microsoft via Techradar]
