Exploring Space is a Humanitarian Duty, Says Rocket Enthusiast Elon Musk

By Gary Cutlack on at

Elon Musk, the man who thinks the planet should resemble a vision of the future from a 1950s comic book, thinks that we have a duty to explore space. It's what we were born to do and we owe it to future generations to protect the species and find new sources of lithium to power their gadgets.

In an interview with Aeon, Musk says we should strive to make mankind "multi-planetary" to safeguard the species from being wiped out in a Hadron collider explosion or from the Russians erroneously nuking the US is response to a radar picking up a flock of migrating geese, explaining: "I think we have a duty to maintain the light of consciousness, to make sure it continues into the future."
