An amendment to the UK's Criminal Courts and Justice Bill will come into law in a matter of weeks, making it a proper criminal offence to post rude photos of others online without their permission.

The so-called "revenge porn" law would cover people posting photos to Facebook and Twitter, also banning the sending of images via text and even making physical copies to print out and stick to local lamp posts a crime. A maximum two years in prison is the ultimate punishment if complained about and caught.

Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said: "The fact that there are individuals who are cruelly distributing intimate pictures of their former partners without their consent is almost beyond belief. We want those who fall victim to this type of disgusting behaviour to know that we are on their side and will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice." [Gov.uk via Ars]
