Apple talked about a great many things during its event earlier tonight, some of it good and some of it bad. As it turns out the biggest news is something that Apple made no mention of: a multi-network SIM to give you far more flexibility.
The SIM comes pre-installed on the Wi-Fi+LTE version of the iPad Air 2, and is designed to give people in the US and the UK more flexibility when choosing short-term contracts. Basically it allows you to choose the deal that suits you best, without the need for any long-term commitment. Plus, when you travel you can sign onto a deal with local networks to keep you connected throughout the duration of your trip.
So far this only seems to be available in the US and the UK, with EE, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile (US) participating. Sure that doesn't give you much leeway in this country, but if you head over to the US you'll be able to get yourself a short-term data plan no problem.
For all of tonight's Apple launch information, rounded up into a single pretty page, look no further than right here.
