4K Apple TV with UHD iTunes Downloads in the Works?

Some fiddling with the iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 has uncovered the ability to play 4K video on Apple's two newest devices, hinting that the next-gen HD video format might be about to become part of Apple's streaming options.

The developer of transcoding app WALTR released a proof of concept video, demonstrating that the A8 processor has enough power to do the job, with sideloaded clips using the H.264 codec playing perfectly on an iPhone 6 -- albeit in a downscaled manner not quite at the 3840 x 2160 resolution offered by 4K clips.
