China Even Censors Data About its Weather

A Beijing-based reporter has discovered that Chinese authorities are attempting to censor the local weather reports, forcing at least one app to stop broadcasting air quality data lest it terrorise the locals into panic-buying gas masks to escape the deadly smog.

The maker of the China Air Quality Index app has replaced local air data for Beijing with a warning message, with an empty spot on the app's home screen now saying the numbers have been pulled "on the orders from government." [Twitter via TechCrunch]
