GiffGaff Now Offers 4G Data Connections to its Users

By Gerald Lynch on at

If you're a GiffGaff customer that's been twiddling its thumbs waiting to be lifted from the unwashed masses of 3G data connections into the upper echelons of the 4G master race, your time has come. The MVNO is now offering 4G plans, with existing customers who joined before October 29th getting the upgrade at no extra cost.

Those long-time GiffGaff customers get a brief price cut to 4G plans too, starting at £15 a month for 1GB of data, 500 minutes and unlimited texts and rising to £15 a month for 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and 5GB of data.

You'll get two months on those promotional low price tiers before all 4G plans with GiffGaff hit a flat rate on January 12th. From then on in the plans cost £12, £15 and £18 a month for 1GB, 3GB and 5GB of data respectively. Your handset will need to support the 800MHz band that O2 uses to beam its data about (GiffGaff, as an MVNO, piggy-backs off O2's infrastructure), while heavy users will be subject to fair-use traffic shaping. Naturally, there will be no unlimited data option offered by GiffGaff. You'll have to head over to Three UK for that. [GiffGaff]
