How Do Touchscreens Actually Work Anyway?

By Jamie Condliffe on at

Touchscreens are everywhere these days, and even though you've probably heard people mumble about the relative benefits of capacitive screens compared to resistive ones, you might not actually know how they work. This video explains.

Greg Foot describes how resistive screens work, before explaining how Apple swung the market in the other direction, to favouring capacitive screens instead. That's what the bulk of the video's really about: from the simple business of registering a single touch, through recognising complex gestures, and the implications of more recent advanced like in-cell screen technology. It's a great little introduction to how touch screens works – well worth watching. [Head Squeeze]
