'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Confirmed as Official Episode VII Title

By Gerald Lynch on at

It's official: Episode VII of the Star Wars saga will be called The Force Awakens. Our shout for 'Episode VII: Darth and Friends' sadly didn't make the cut.

Along with revealing the title, the @starwars Twitter account also confirmed that the film has wrapped principal photography, with work now moving on to slathering the celluloid with visual effects at the new London arm of Industrial Light and Magic.

Set to be released on December 18th, 2015, director J. J. Abrams and his production crew have done a good job of keeping much of the film's plot and look closely guarded -- though a few key spoiler-ific points may have slipped out.

So what do you think of the title? The Force Awakens is a bit lacking in drama for my liking. And when exactly did the Force go to sleep? Luke, Yoda and Darth seemed to have a pretty good handle on it during the original trilogy, right? Grab your blasters and fire away in the comments below. [@starwars]
