This wonderfully made animation plays up war as something that's actually fun. There are guns that shoot out flowers and grenades that are actually caramel apple lollipops. But because war is actually a horrific thing, the short film takes a dark turn. If only it were always flowers and lollipops.
The short is called La Detente and starts out from the imagination of a soldier who's in the trenches.
Pierre & Bertrand dedicated their spare time over four years to create this epic 3D film. The film tells the story of a French soldier in World War I, who becomes paralyzed with fear while in the trenches. He escapes in his head to an imaginary world where toys fight wars instead of humans. It won many awards and was shown at Cannes film festival 2011.
