Amazon's Jeff Bezos has given us a clear indication that the Fire Phone is considered a flop both by consumers and within Amazon itself, suggesting the heavily customised Android mobile was a "bold bet" that didn't pay off.
Bezos told Business Insider's Ignition event: "People love to focus on things that aren't working. That's fine, but it's incredibly hard to get people to take bold bets. And if you push people to take bold bets, there will be experiments... that don't work." Which we think is a subtle way of saying he's got several hundred thousand unwanted Fire Phones clogging up his glorious distribution centres.
But the Amazon phone dream hasn't died yet. There will be more, with Bezos saying we can expect "many iterations" of the device to eventually, perhaps, come up with one people don't laugh at and add to their baskets. [NBC via Techradar]
