Rumours surrounding Microsoft's Windows 10 plan suggest the software giant may be using the next desktop release to prop-up Windows Phone, with cross-platform apps releasing for desktop that work, seamlessly, on mobile.

The move, according to The Information, will be announced on Wednesday, when MS will demo a single code base that lets software run on desktop, tablet or Windows Phone device, in a move that ought to see floods of new apps appear for WP and quite conveniently plug the apps gap that stops many from giving its mobile OS a shot.

The source also says MS will also create a single app store, to replace the existing WP and desktop software shops, which, really, is the sort of thing the omnipresent software maker should've done a decade ago. [The Information via Trusted Reviews]
