Fracking Banned from UK Parks and Beauty Spots

The government has changed its mind on the fast-tracking of fracking at all costs, agreeing to a Labour amendment to keep the controversial drilling technique out of national parks, sitesĀ of special interest and areas of natural beauty.

The change also includes a slightly less easy to define promise to keep the technique away from areas used for drinking water collection, also asking for one year of background monitoring to be conducted before any drilling can be done. [Reuters]
