HTC One M9 May Use a 20MP Standard Camera Instead of UltraPixel

When HTC first launched its "One" line, the low-light UltraPixel camera system was trumpeted as being the future of smartphone snapping. But even by the launch of the HTC One M8, the reality was that the UltraPixel camera was divisive, with many preferring a standard (often sharper) camera instead. According to Bloomberg, it seems HTC are all-but-ready to capitulate.

As well as seemingly confirming the HTC One M9 codename, sources speaking to Bloomberg claim that HTC's next flagship smartphone will opt for a standard 20MP camera as its main photography component. The UltraPixel system won't be ditched entirely -- the technology will instead be used in the smartphone's front-facing camera, for low-light selfies.

Elsewhere, the report also points towards HTC squeezing in Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor, the Sense 7 UI with improved location services and 5.1 audio from Dolby.

All plausible. HTC sent out March 1st invites to its MWC press event last week. Expect all to be revealed there. [Bloomberg]
