Huawei will unveil its next flagship smartphone, the Ascend P8, at a special event in London in April, Gizmodo UK has learned.
The Chinese tech firm's global marketing director Jerry Huang confirmed that while it is focusing on wearables ahead of new handsets at Mobile World Congress, Huawei will launch its new phone in the English capital the month after.
Its previous flagship, the Ascend P7 (above), was revealed in Paris last year and Europe has become an increasing priority as Huawei looks to expand overseas.
“We launched the P6 in London and maybe we launch our new flagship in London this year," said Kevin Ho, president of the handset product line, to us at the firm's Shanghai campus, before it was confirmed to us by Huawei reps.
"I think in the London market we are thinking about how to optimise our sales team and improve our collaboration with operators," he continued.
"There are a lot of challenges to sell in the UK. Consumers in London have a lot of choice and they have a very good sense of smartphones. We are working hard to increase market share."
Update: The event date has been confirmed as April 15.
