Since Luke Skywalker first weaved through the Death Star trenches towers back in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, we've all wanted to pilot an X-Wing fighter. And now, thanks to a new Bandai Namco developed game you (almost!) can. Star Wars: Battle Pod looks to be not only one of the maddest-looking arcade games ever, it may very well end up being the best interactive Star Wars experience too:
Headed to arcades this week, it's an on-rails shooter not unlike the Star Wars Arcade Trilogy game of old. The difference here however is the sense of immersion -- sat inside a "cockpit", Battle Pod features a giant curved screen, thrusting you into the action, as well as a rumbling seat and even fans to deliver a sense of speed. As well as the first Death Star battle above the planet of Yavin, the game also lets you take on AT-ATs on Hoth and race through the Ewok's homeworld of Endor on speeder bikes.
We've yet to see a Star Wars: Battle Pod cabinet out in the wild -- which is probably a good thing, as I don't think there are enough pound coins in the world to feed the amount of time I'd want to spend playing it. If you do manage to find one in the UK though, and have given it a go, do make us all jealous by sharing your experience below.
Thanks for the tip, Ben!
