You know what’s better than playing a game? Watching a movie based on a game!
Actually, no it isn’t; it’s awful, usually, but we have high hopes for the movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed because it’s being made by Ubisoft and the French publisher has a vested interest in the movie not being shit.
The road to bringing Ubi’s stab-fest to the silver screen has been a tad rocky at times – not least because Ubisoft insisted on having final say on the project – but now it’s officially in development with New Regency.
And it will have Michael Fassbender in it. So there’s that.
It also now has a release date. According to Wired, Ubisoft revealed in an earnings call that Assassin’s Creed: The Movie will see its release on December 21st, 2016.
"We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started," said Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot. "This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
Also: Michael Fassbender. Just saying. [Wired]
