Boxy Lamps Fake the Glow Of Neon Lights Without All That Buzzing

By Andrew Liszewski on at

Inspired by the neon works of artists like Dan Flavin, London lighting design firm Minimalux has created a simple box-shaped lamp that creates the look of neon lighting – long thin slits of light – without that buzzing sound that's become the hallmark of red-light districts the world over.

The Neon Light lamps are made from a single piece of thin steel that's been folded into a box, with thin slits cut into every edge to let light from a bulb inside bleed through.

Given their £125-a-block price tag, the lamps are designed to serve more as an art piece that puts form over function – you're not going to rely on one to properly illuminate a room. But they do come in your choice of one of four colours including yellow, mint, white and turquoise to help them blend into your decor. [Luminaire via Better Living Through Design]
