Dogger Bank Super Wind Farm Approved

By Gary Cutlack on at

The coast off Yorkshire will soon be home to the biggest offshore wind farm in the world, thanks to plans for the 400-plus turbine Dogger Bank Creyke Beck development being given the go ahead.

The cost of development is expected to be as much as £6bn, with the end result being a site able to generate up to 2400MW -- 2.5 percent of the UK's electricity needs -- on a windy day. The government says it should support around 900 jobs in the area too, with the construction consortium of SSE, RWE, Statkraft and Statoil laying over 130km of cable to link the site to the grid.
