Spam Callers Set for £500,000 Fine Apocalypse

By Gary Cutlack on at

A new crackdown on nuisance callers could see the most aggressive offenders fined up to £500,000, thanks to a softening of prosecution laws that make it easier to take action on companies that just... won't... leave us... alone.

The rule changes will see the government remove the need to prove "substantial damage or substantial distress" has been caused by the callers or spam text senders, meaning the Information Commissioner's Office should find it easier to prosecute persistent phone spammers. The rule changes come in this April. []
