App-based cab booking services are all the rage in the US but, unless you live in London, your options have been very limited here in the UK. That's going to change today though, as two of the leading hire firms, Uber and GetTaxi, have both announced expansion plans across Britain.
First up, controversy-courting Uber. It's now also taking fares in Birmingham, upping its UK city count to four alongside Manchester, London and Leeds.
Black cab booking firm GetTaxi is expanding too, taking in six new cities, starting with Edinburgh, Liverpool and Manchester, and soon to serve Birmingham, Glasgow and Leeds too.
Spoilt for choice then, especially with the autonomous Johnny Cab army looming on the horizon.
