It's tempting isn't it? Payday's just come around and you've rode the financial hump that is Christmas through to the end. It's time to treat yourself and, as a self-respecting gadget fan, what's a better gift to yourself than a new phone?
STOP THAT TRAIN OF THOUGHT RIGHT NOW.
Today (and, this entire weekend in fact) is the worst possible time to buy a new phone.
We're just about to turn our focus to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which officially kicks off on March 2nd. However, most of the major phone manufacturers (including Samsung and HTC) plan to show off brand new gear on Sunday, March 1st, with Sony following up in the days that follow, and LG revealing new gear next week too.
Even if those handsets don't interest you, I'd stress again -- DON'T BUY A PHONE UNTIL NEXT WEEK AT THE EARLIEST. With a new generation of smartphones on the horizon, phone shops are going to start discounting their ageing inventory, while eBay is going to be flooded with last year's gear as people get ready to upgrade to the newer stuff. In the coming weeks, you'll be able to knock a good chunk of change off the 2014 flagships as they are superseded by gear shown off this weekend.
So, if you're on the market for a brand new top-flight phone, your options are going to be significantly widened over the coming days, and if you're looking for a bargain, there are deals aplenty to come. Lock up that credit card for just a little longer.
