All of the UK's 650 MPs will be offered a complimentary iPad Air 2 -- and a new laptop -- after the next general election, a quite powerful incentive to continue in the job of being moaned at all day because of the waiting times at the local GP surgery.
The handout comes via the House of Commons Commission, which has recommended the IT of our MPs is updated to ensure they're never more than 30 seconds away from issuing a career-ending tweet.
Shadow Cabinet Office minister Chi Onwurah has come out windmilling like John Prescott in fury at the move, saying: "As we saw with Nigel Mills and Candy Crush, MPs will be using the games, and the iTunes and other features on the iPad and locking some of the most powerful people in the country into a platform that most of my constituents can’t afford seems like a mistake."
The Commission chairman and John Thurso disagrees, saying iOS has become essential, explaining: "A move away from the Apple operating system at this time would incur costs to change these processes. Our requirements are for a secure, SIM-enabled tablet with a good life expectancy and capable of supporting future upgrades."
The 16GB model with Wi-Fi and 3G for £499 is apparently the new toy your MP will be getting. Petition them to auction the things for charity. [Express]
