You know what Apple loves? A good ol' expensive accessory. The introduction of USB Type-C in its new MacBook line allows for just that, with a load of pricey dongles on the way to support the One Port To Rule Them All. And while USB Type-C may be knocking out the much-loved MagSafe charging port, it may also allow for the MacBook to support a long-requested add-on: battery packs.
According to 9to5Mac's sources, accessory makers are already lining up to offer external, on-the-go juice boxes for the MacBook. If you've ever had a laptop give its last breath on your lap with no wall socket to revive it from, you'll know how much this additional feature would be appreciated. It's also possible that, should you live in a house full of Macs (you annoyingly hip, cash flushed so-and-so) or be sitting in the MacBook meeting ground that is a Starbucks, you'll be able to use USB Type-C to potentially share power from one computer to your new single-ported one.
Keeping in mind that any USB Type-C accessory will also be universal, there's a good chance that you'll be able to get affordable mobile power supplies from third party manufacturers before long too. Maybe losing MagSafe won't be so painful after all. [9to5Mac]
